Over the last few of days the Citonet team have been working hard to install a wireless hotspot for an entire apartment block. The buildings internal telephone wiring was non standard, causing such great signal loss that broadband speed ranged from 2-6Mb/s on an contented ADSL connection. After a site survey, we decided that the below plan would give the best performance and cost efficiency per floor. The building has 12 stories in total with largely the same layout on each floor. Indoor access point floor planBroadband uplinkThe equipment chosen for the installation was Ubiquiti's UniFi indoor access points, these created the hotspot for the residents to connect to and allowed single pane management via the UniFi controller. The backbone of the on site network consisted of cat5e cable, connected to UniFi POE switches and a Ubiquiti Security Gateway. The broadband feed came off one our POPs 4km away, due to the initial demand by residents and the high speed advertised (50+Mb/s), we chose to go with the Ubiquiti Air Fibre AF24 which is rated for 1.4Gbps throughput. This will easily service the demand of the clients already signed up to the service and will future proof the system for many years to come as our customer base grows.
